Save, sync and back up
You don’t need an account to use Faucus. Your plan is saved in this browser on this device as you work.
Browser-only use
Section titled “Browser-only use”Once the app has loaded, you can keep working through a lost connection. Changes save locally. This doesn’t guarantee that you can open the app from scratch without a connection, so load it before going offline.
Another browser, browser profile or device has its own storage. It won’t have this plan unless you import it or use sync. An app window added to your Dock or Home Screen can also have separate storage, so back up before switching.
Clearing site data can erase your local plan. Private browsing can discard it when the session ends, and browsers may remove stored data under storage pressure. Keep a downloaded backup somewhere outside the browser if the plan matters to you.
Optional sync
Section titled “Optional sync”Sign in to sync is in the app’s ⋯ menu. Signing in connects the plan already on the device to your account rather than asking you to start again.
The hosted service currently restricts sign-in to approved email addresses. Browser-only planning and file export don’t need that access.
Check the footer to see what has been saved:
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Saved on this device | The plan is local to this browser |
| Syncing… | Changes are being exchanged with the account |
| Synced | The latest exchange has finished |
| Offline | Local changes are saved; sync will resume when connected |
| Sync paused | Local work is saved, but the session needs renewing |
Sync is useful for continuing on another device. It isn’t a substitute for a separate backup of important work.
Export a copy
Section titled “Export a copy”Choose Export… in the app’s ⋯ menu, then Download or Copy.
- Markdown (readable) gives you an outline you can read and edit elsewhere. It includes titles, notes, dates, statuses, goal colours and tags. It isn’t a complete backup of settings.
- Full backup (JSON) is the choice for restoring the plan in Faucus, including tag settings and Active limits. It doesn’t contain your account credentials or device preferences. It does contain recorded changes, so treat the file as private.
Exports include the whole plan, not just the current filter or branch. Keep the file somewhere you can find it without opening Faucus.
Import a plan
Section titled “Import a plan”Choose Import…, then paste the content or upload a file. Faucus accepts its full backup, its Markdown outline format and a full backup from the older Taskify app.
Import replaces the whole current plan. It doesn’t add to it. Export first if there’s anything you want to keep, then read the replacement confirmation.
An import is one undo step during the current session. Don’t rely on undo after closing or reloading the app. For a Markdown starting point, export a small plan and edit that file rather than guessing the format.
