Use Faucus like an app
You can give Faucus its own icon, and on supported browsers, its own window without the usual tabs and address bar. There’s nothing to download from an app store.
Open your plan at app.faucus.com before following these steps, not this documentation site.
Before you switch
Section titled “Before you switch”If you already have a plan, download a full backup first. An app window can use separate storage from your browser. Safari on Mac does this, so your local plan may not appear there automatically.
Open the new icon and check your plan. If it isn’t there, use sync if your account has access, or import the backup into the new window. Keep the original until you’ve checked the result.
Mac: Safari
Section titled “Mac: Safari”Requires macOS Sonoma 14 or later.
- With your plan open in Safari, choose File → Add to Dock. You can also find Add to Dock in Share.
- Name it Faucus, then choose Add.
Open it from the Dock, Spotlight or your user Applications folder. It runs in its own window.
Windows: Microsoft Edge
Section titled “Windows: Microsoft Edge”- Open ⋯ → More tools → Apps → Install this site as an app. In some versions, Apps is directly in the ⋯ menu.
- Name it Faucus and confirm the installation.
To pin it later, open edge://apps, find Faucus and choose Details, then Pin to taskbar, Pin to Start or Create Desktop shortcut.
Chrome on a computer
Section titled “Chrome on a computer”On Windows, Mac, Linux or a Chromebook:
- Open ⋮ → Cast, save, and share → Install page as app….
- Confirm the installation, using Faucus as the name.
You can then pin the app where you normally keep apps. On Windows, Mac and Linux, chrome://apps also lets you create shortcuts for installed apps.
If your version only offers Create shortcut…, that gives you quick access but may still open a browser tab rather than a separate window.
iPhone and iPad: Safari
Section titled “iPhone and iPad: Safari”- Open Share in Safari’s toolbar or page menu.
- Choose Add to Home Screen. On iPad, you may need View More first. On iPhone, if the action is missing, use Edit Actions to add it.
- Turn on Open as Web App if shown. Name it Faucus, then tap Add.
Tap the new Home Screen icon to open it. Older versions may open Safari instead if they don’t offer Open as Web App.
Android: Chrome
Section titled “Android: Chrome”- Open ⋮ → Install and create shortcut → Create shortcut. Some versions call the first option Add to home screen.
- Name it Faucus, then tap Add and confirm any Home Screen prompt.
A shortcut bearing the Chrome logo opens in Chrome. It isn’t necessarily a separate app window.
What stays the same
Section titled “What stays the same”The icon doesn’t create a backup, enable account sync or guarantee an offline launch. Saving and offline use work as described in the data guide. Export your plan before uninstalling an app or clearing its website data.
