Find and focus

You can narrow the plan by where the work belongs or what kind of work you want to see. These are different choices.

On Board or Calendar, choose a goal or task in the Goals panel to show that part of the plan. A task’s menu also offers Show only this branch.

On phones, use the Goals menu beside the heading. The breadcrumb above the work shows where you are. Choose an earlier step to go back, or All goals for the whole plan.

In Outline and Map, choosing a goal in the side panel takes you to it within the hierarchy. Use Show only this branch when you want to change the scope itself.

For example, scope to Check whether people need the product when you want to work through the startup research without the rest of the launch plan around it.

Search finds words in titles and notes. Press / with single-key shortcuts enabled to focus the search field.

Use Filter to narrow by status, depth or tags. Date shortcuts include Overdue, Due today, This week and, where available, No date.

Filters work together. Choose #outreach and This week to find outreach work dated this week. Several selected tags match any of those tags. Done tasks don’t match tag filters or No date.

Filters and scope stay with you when you switch views. Use Clear filters, or Reset inside Filter, to remove the filters. To leave a branch too, return to All goals.

The Board, Calendar and Zen leave out work that doesn’t match. Outline and Map dim it instead, so the structure still makes sense.

The side outline beside Calendar also dims work left out by filters. Beside Board, it follows search but keeps the wider structure visible for the other filters.

A dimmed task hasn’t been deleted or completed. Clear the filter to see it normally again.

Collapse idle folds branches that contain no Active or Waiting work. Use it to quiet the plan after choosing what to work on. With single-key shortcuts enabled, press I to toggle it.

This changes which branches are open, not their status. Filters still apply separately.

Open a folded branch when you need it. Manually opening one turns Collapse idle off while leaving the other folds as they are. In the tree views, Expand all opens the current scope again.
