Keyboard shortcuts
You can use Faucus without dragging or reaching for the mouse. Use Tab to reach controls, arrow keys to navigate lists and menus, and Enter to choose.
Open Keyboard shortcuts from the app’s ⋯ menu for the full list. With Single-key shortcuts enabled in that menu, ? opens it too.
Single-key shortcuts include letters, status digits and symbols such as /. They don’t run while you’re typing in a text field. Arrows, modified keys and the usual form controls work with that setting off too.
Here, ⌘ / Ctrl means Command on macOS or Control on Windows and Linux. Alt is Option on a Mac.
Anywhere
Section titled “Anywhere”The single keys in this table require Single-key shortcuts to be on.
| Key | Action |
|---|---|
| G / N | New goal / new task |
| B / C | Board / Calendar |
| O | Outline or Map; press again to switch between them |
| P | Focus the Goals panel or menu; return to work on Outline/Map |
| / | Search |
| I | Toggle Collapse idle |
| # | Add a tag to the focused task or selected tasks |
| ? | Show shortcuts |
⌘ / Ctrl + Z undoes a change. Redo with ⇧ + ⌘ + Z on macOS, or Ctrl + Y on Windows/Linux. In a text field these remain text editing commands.
Esc first closes the top dialog or menu. With none open, it can clear a selection, leave an expanded column, clear search or return to All goals. Press it once and check what changed.

In Outline, Enter starts a sibling task. On a goal or scoped heading, it starts a child. In the Goals panel, Enter opens details instead.
While writing a new task, Enter saves and continues, Tab indents, Shift+Tab outdents, and ⌘/Ctrl+Enter saves and stops. Esc discards only the current unsaved text. While renaming, Enter saves and stops.
With single keys on, H J K L work as left, down, up, right. Shift with those letters rearranges tasks like Alt with the corresponding arrows.
| Keys | Action |
|---|---|
| ↑ / ↓ | Previous / next task in the column |
| ← / → | Previous / next column |
| Enter | Open details |
| Alt + ↑ / ↓ | Reorder in the column |
| Alt + ← / → | Move to the previous / next status |
| Shift + F10 | Task menu |
With single keys on: E expands the task’s column, S opens Status, and A adds a subtask. 1 Backlog, 2 Active, 3 Waiting, 4 Done also work on tasks in the tree views and Calendar.
In an expanded column, use Left/Right to navigate the sideways row. Alt+Up/Down still reorders, now within the family. Esc returns to Board.
On Board or Outline, X selects a task with single keys on. ⌘ / Ctrl + A selects all in view when you aren’t editing text. Use # to tag the selection.
Calendar
Section titled “Calendar”On the day grid, arrows move between days, Page Up / Page Down change the month, and Enter selects a day. With single keys on, T returns to Today.
On a task’s bar, Alt+Left/Right moves it by a day; Alt+Up/Down moves it by a week. Alt+Shift+Left/Right changes only its due date. Enter opens details.
Map and Zen
Section titled “Map and Zen”On Map, Enter starts a sibling and Tab starts a child. ⌘/Ctrl+Enter renames the selected task. Esc releases the selection so Tab can reach the map controls. During creation, Tab saves the text and starts a child; Shift+Tab moves the unsaved task one level out. Map isn’t available on phones.
In Zen, Up/Down moves between tasks, Enter opens details, and Shift+F10 opens the task menu. Reach Zen through the view tabs; it has no single-letter shortcut.
Tags and dialogs
Section titled “Tags and dialogs”In tag completion, Up/Down chooses, Enter or Tab confirms, and Esc closes the list. Shift+F10 on a tag opens its settings.
In a dialog, Enter saves unless you’re writing notes. ⌘/Ctrl+Enter saves from any field. Esc closes the dialog, asking first if it would discard changes.
